“Dis-Information in an Information Age”
With the creation and widespread use of terms like “fake news,” and “alternative facts,” we find ourselves constantly calling into question what we and others believe is true or real. Whether this dissemination of information comes in the form of a political campaign, commercial, website, or otherwise, this transmission of so-called information has the ability to shape perceptions, attitudes and behaviors. With this year’s conference theme, “dis-information in an information age,” we are particularly interested in essays that explore the societal impact this phenomena has to alter how we view and assess the world, its events, and its people.
Given the multi-disciplinary trajectory of this conference, we invite scholars, graduate students, and professionals from various backgrounds to join us for this global launch. We wish to invite, but not limit participation from those who study: Communication Studies, Political Communication, Mass Communication and Mass Media, amongst other areas.
Possible topics can include, but are certainly not limited to: Language and Society, Media and Society, Culture and Communication, Political Communication, Political Campaigns and Elections, Social Media, Journalism, Persuasion, Mass Media, Global Opinion, Public Policy, Polling
