CLMPS 2011 - CLMPS 2011: 14th Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science
Topics/Call fo Papers
On behalf of the local organizing committee of the 14th Congress of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science, to be held in Nancy in 2011, 19-26 July, I would like to convey my appreciation for the confidence that scholars from many parts of the world have placed in our team.
This congress is meant to reflect the current state of the art in Logic and Philosophy of Science and also to draw upon and present new perspectives.
A novelty of the Nancy Congress is that it has adopted a topic of special focus. This presents the opportunity for casting a strong light on an issue of major importance today, namely: the integration of contemporary technologies in sciences and in society. Questions surrounding this issue are likely to interest the scientific community, as well as a variety of social actors and various partners involved in the congress.
It is our hope that devoting a series of plenary lectures, symposia and special sessions to the theme of "Logic and science facing new technologies", will enable philosophers and logicians to help deepen our understanding of the most promising orientations in science and even help promote future advances in human civilization.
The city of Nancy is the cultural and economic capital of the Lorraine region of north-eastern France. Situated at the heart of a far-reaching web of cities and towns composing a metropolitan area of 410,000 inhabitants, it is a lively city offering all the advantages of a European metropolis.
Jules Henri Poincaré, one of the world's most famous scientists, who died one hundred years ago (in 1912), was born in Nancy in 1854.
In the 18th century, Stanislas Leszczynski, former King of Poland, became Duke of Lorraine and led Nancy forward into the age of Enlightenment. He ordered the construction of a magnificent series of squares. Today this architectural ensemble is the city's main architectural landmark and is included in the Unesco W.H.L..
The turn of the 20th century witnessed the birth of the ?Ecole de Nancy? now universally recognized as a leading light of the Art Nouveau movement.
I hope the high standards of this meeting will convince you to come to the Nancy Congress, where you will be able to enjoy many aspects of French culture.
