BII 2018 - Biomedical Informatics Insights Special Issue on Precision and Individualized Medicine
Topics/Call fo Papers
In 2015 President Obama has announced a research initiative that aims to accelerate progress toward a new era of precision medicine. The aim of precision medicine is to develop innovative prevention and treatment strategies that take individual variability into account. Recent development of large-scale genome sequence data and computational tools for analyzing large sets of data has made the prospect of applying this concept dramatically improved. Emerging evidence suggests that health practitioners can utilize patients’ genomic data to improve individualized care in clinical practice. For example, there is a rapidly growing expectation to incorporate genomic medicine into individualized patient care. Despite the numerous benefits, the challenges to integrate genomics into patient care are vast. In addition, it is still a mystery how to take advantage of rich data through clinical trials, electronic medical records, and other means.
This Special Collection will gather all studies related to approaches to utilizing trait (genetic) and state (clinical) data in practice. Submissions are invited to address the need for developing innovative methods that can potentially lead to significant advances in the precision and individualized medicine.
Topics of Interest
The topics of interest include but are not limited to:
• Practical applications of genomics for individualizing patient care
• Applications for integrating genomics and pharmacogenomics to clinical practice
• Strategies to overcome obstacles with implementing genomic medicine
• Genomic technology applications, impact on health care delivery, and implications for patients and medical professionals
• Predictive and prognostic genomic discoveries which impact the understanding of health and disease
• Big data analysis including machine learning and data mining applications on genetics and clinical data
• Research and discoveries in precision and individualized medicine
