The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners active in the fields of Modeling and Model-Driven Engineering in order to analyze the status of the adoption of Model-Driven Engineering in the different domains, and identify and define the challenges to be met in order to cope with the evolutionary pressure due to the changing landscape of complex software systems. Overall, the future of MDE is filled with many diverse opportunities for research studies and technology development. These opportunities are of interest to both the extant software industry and the scientific community that have been active in modeling, model-based software engineering, and model-driven engineering. While it has been possible to develop a perspective about many categories of research problems, additional cooperative efforts are necessary to identify and re-examine the grand challenges the community has to meet. This need is even more cogent due to ineluctable interplay between conceptual and theoretical settings, and the underlying frameworks and technical spaces.
Workshop format
The workshop will focus on presentation of position papers and challenge problems (precisely and concisely stated). Because the workshop is designed to set a challenging research agenda on modeling and Model-Driven Engineering for the next 5-10 years, we solicit papers on any topic relevant to modeling or MDE. Papers should be either presenting a clear positive position about relevant research, or define a challenge problem to motivate the community:
A position paper should state a clear and unambiguous position about research in modeling and MDE and should lead the reader through a cogent argument. Ideally a position paper should argue for establishment of research in a particular direction (e.g., negative results, empirical/experimental research) or on a particular theme.
A challenge problem should precisely and concisely define a concrete problem (e.g., related to industry needs, theoretical challenges or predicted developments in systems or software engineering) and should motivate readers as to the importance of working on that problem. All papers should be no more than 2 pages.
