The Education Unit of ATINER is organizing A Stream on “Technology & School Education in a Global World”, 18-21 December 2017, Athens, Greece as part of the 11th Annual International Conference on Global Studies: Business, Economic, Political, Social and Cultural Aspects sponsored by the Athens Journal of Education.
The greatest bonanza to school education in recent memory has come from technology. The informed use of technology revolutionized the concept of learning across the classrooms around the world. Internet opened the floodgates of the information highway, and knowledge reached the classrooms from New York to New Delhi with ease. Teachers are able to engage the students in a novel learning experience which is more creative and innovative. Technology in school education is nothing short of blessing in poor countries, where education is not available to a large number of children. With the help of technology, some of the poorest countries have brought classrooms in vicinity with remote areas, where, otherwise, children would remain illiterate. Technology also provides a multitude of stimuli to the young minds thanks to the abundance of information available online. It has connected the teacher and the student like never before, outside the class hours, with the help of emails and social media. However, we must keep two important things in mind while making judicious use of technology, i.e. that technology is for education and not vice versa, and secondly, that the role of the teacher must never be undermined, since education is meant for human beings. Only a human teacher can convey knowledge to students, while, at the same time, instilling values in children and comforting them, if necessary. Technology can be a useful means, a medium by which and through which a teacher will successfully guide his students through the learning experience.
This stream intends to further and deeper explore the connections between the fields of technology and education. Educators, psychologists, sociologists, and researchers from all areas of knowledge that relate to this subject, are invited to participate and discuss their experiences, ideas and research findings on the matter.
You may participate as presenter of one paper, chair or/and organizer of a session, or observer.
Fee structure information is available on www.atiner.gr/fees.
Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, an Athens educational walking tour, and an one-day visit to Delphi. Details of the social program are available here. Accompanying persons pay no registration fee, but only the cost of the activity they want to participate in. Co-authors are not considered to be “accompanying” persons and they pay the registration fee only if they participate in the conference.
Please submit an abstract (email only) to: atiner-AT-atiner.gr, using the abstract submission form by 6 November 2017 to: Ms. Charu Nautiyal, Academic Member, ATINER & Principal, Dunnes Institute, India.
Please include: Title of Paper, Full Name (s), Current Position, Institutional Affiliation, an email address and at least 3 keywords that best describe the subject of your submission. Decisions will be reached within four weeks of your submission.
