Overview:
Cases of armed attackers continue to plague this country, with perpetrators injuring and killing people in our offices, factories, government facilities, hospitals, malls, churches, movie theaters, and students in K-12 schools and colleges and universities. The Department of Homeland Security has partnered with the City of Houston, Texas, to create a YouTube video called “Run-Hide-Fight.” This program has been viewed over 31 million times, which means this emergency response concept has now achieved recognizable status in this country as a viable solution to this rare problem of an active shooter or armed attacker. This session covers why and how all business leaders, managers, supervisors, and frontline employees need to “file away” the Run-Hide-Fight concept, just like they would do for a building fire, earthquake, or weather event.
Why Should You Attend:
Employees have real and reasonable fears about workplace violence in their workplaces, or as employees at a school campus or district, or working in a mall, church, or public-access facility. They aren’t always sure what to do in case of Active Shooter Incident or when they hear about mass murder attacks, targeted shootings, murder-suicide events, and now, due to the San Bernardino and Orlando massacres, the new emergence of terrorism in the US, post 9-11.
Areas Covered in this Webinar:
Along with what is listed above, this active shooter training session will discuss “behavioral triggers” (not profiles) that can lead certain unstable, vengeful, and angry people to want to act out with lethal violence. And since some employees have domestic violence issues that start at home and crossover to work ? despite their efforts to keep their current or former intimate partners away from their workplaces ? this session will discuss how to handle these situations.
Learning Objectives:
Learn the methods of typical armed attackers and how these have evolved over time.
Know the history of the Run-Hide-Fight protocol and why it has become the national standard.
Know how to conduct an Active Shooter/Armed Attacker drill at your facility, using the 15-Minute drill.
Learn when it's safe to leave the facility, when it's better to barricade inside a safe room, and how to fight back.
Understand the law enforcement response to Active Shooters/Armed Attackers and what roles you may have to play to support their efforts.
Who Will Benefit:
All business owners, leaders, facilities management, risk managers, safety officers, public agencies, and private-sector employers, including department heads, managers, supervisors, and frontline employees who deal with customers, clients, taxpayers, visitors, vendors, students, patients, or strangers, over the phone, over the counter, in an interview room, or out in the field.
Speaker Profile:
As a trainer, speaker, author, and consultant, Dr. Steve Albrecht is internationally known for his expertise in high-risk HR issues. He provides consulting, threat assessments, site security surveys, corrective coaching, and training seminars in workplace violence prevention, school violence prevention, harassment prevention, workplace drug and alcohol awareness, team building, conflict resolution, high-risk customer service, and stress management.
In 1994, Dr. Albrecht co-wrote Ticking Bombs: Defusing Violence in the Workplace, one of the first business books on workplace violence. Besides his work as a conference presenter and keynote speaker, he appears in the media and on the Internet, as a source on workplace violence, security, crime, and terrorism. He was featured in the 2009 BBC documentary “Going Postal.”
