arcart 2018 - A Stream on “Architecture as a Scene of Visual Culture”

The Arts & Culture Unit and the Architecture Unit of ATINER are organizing A Stream on “Architecture as a Scene of Visual Culture”, 9-12 July, 2018 as part of the 8th Annual International Conference on Architecture sponsored by the Athens Journal of Humanities & Arts and the Athens Journal of Architecture.
The aim of the stream is to bring into dialogue the current issues of Architecture with their related fields of Aesthetics, Design, Technology, Sustainability, Restauration/Renovation, Passive/Renewable Architecture, Metropolis, as well as with their correspondent concepts within the Visual Culture, such as Pleasure/Happiness, Production, AI/AR (Virtual, Augmented Reality), Image and Brain Theory, Memory, Authenticity, Open City etc. The semantic itself of the word “architecture” has increasingly changed, and even the interest of the architects is reoriented toward new ways to see their own profession.
So, from the “architecture” per se as “giving matter of an abstract, inorganic form created by human understanding”, as it is acknowledged by Hegel’s aesthetics system, to the architecture as a vast stage that surrounds us by making itself, at the same time, the object of our visual universe, there is a dynamic shift in the visual experience to depict. Therefore, the call is to focus on academics and researchers, but also to address the interest of the practitioner architects, that will be able to present specific case studies in order to provide relevant enquiries between the most innovative developments in architecture nowadays, keeping alive, at the same time, the aspect of it as the art of building the living space, and the intrinsic specificity of architecture as a scene of Visual Culture.
You may participate as presenter of one paper, chair or/and organizer of a session, or observer.

Special arrangements will be made with a local hotel for a limited number of rooms at a special conference rate. In addition, a number of special events will be organized: A pragmatic symposium (as organized in Ancient Athens but fine tuned to synchronous ethics), a special one-day educational island tour, a Mycanae and island of Poros visit, an Athens educational walking tour, an one-day visit to Delphi and an ancient Corinth and Cape Sounion visit. Please include: Title of Paper, Full Name (s), Current Position, Institutional Affiliation, an email address and at least 3 keywords that best describe the subject of your submission. Decisions will be reached within four weeks of your submission. Please use the abstract submitting form.

The association was established in 1995 as an independent world association of Academics and Researchers. Its mission is to act as a forum where Academics and Researchers from all over the world can meet in Athens, in order to exchange ideas on their research, and to discuss future developments in their disciplines.
The organizing and hosting of International Conferences and Symposiums, the carrying out of Research, and the production of Publications are the basic activities of ATINER. Since 1995, ATINER has organized more than 400 International Conferences and other events, and has published close to 200 books. In 2012, the Association launched a series of conference paper publications (click here), and at the beginning of 2014, it introduced its own series of Journals (click here).
Academically, the Association is organized into seven Divisions and 37 Units. Each Unit organizes at least an Annual International Conference, and may also undertake various small and large research projects.
