Third Linguistics Conference Scheduled
The University of Central Oklahoma will host the second Language & Linguistics Student Conference on Nov. 6, 2010, on its campus in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Sponsored by the student-centered Language Society in collaboration with the UCO Department of English and English Society, the conference will feature undergraduate and graduate student research in the fields of language and linguistics through papers and presentations by students from national and international institutions.
In addition to the presentation sessions, keynote speaker Dr. Dennis Preston, will lecture on the value of non-specialist knowledge (or belief) about language or "Folk Linguistics." Dr. Preston (Regents Professor of Linguistics, Oklahoma State University and University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Linguistics and English, Michigan State University; Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison) has been visiting professor at the Universities of Indiana Southeast, SUNY Oswego, Hawaii, Arizona, Michigan, Copenhagen, and Berkeley and Fulbright Senior Researcher in Poland and Brazil.
All presentations, lectures, and discussions are free and open to the public, and community members and UCO students are encouraged to attend.
