As the flagship conference and the most important event in the region, the 5th International Conference on Audio, Language and Image Processing (ICALIP2016) will continue the great success of its four previous editions (ICALIP 2008, ICALIP2010, ICALIP2012 and ICALIP2014) with aiming to provide a unique forum for researchers, engineers and educators interested in audio, language, image processing and virtual reality to learn about recent progresses, to address related challenges and to develop new methods, applications and systems. The conference, to be held on July 11-12, 2016 in Shanghai, the largest city of China, is technically sponsored by IEEE CIS Shanghai Chapter and is co-organized by IET Shanghai Local Network, Shanghai University, Science and Technology on Near-surface Detection Laboratory, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Tongji University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The conference proceedings including all the accepted papers will be published by IEEE (IEEE catalog number: No. CFP1650D-PRT and ISBN: 978-1-5090-0653-3) and submitted to both EI Compendex and ISTP which have indexed all accepted papers of four previous editions (ICALIP 2008/2010/2012/2014) of this biannual conference series. Best Paper Awards will be granted to the authors of those outstanding papers determined by the International Program Committee of the conference and also the expanded version of the selected papers will be published in four SCI-E indexed IET Research Journals.
