13th International Meeting Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics of Infectious Diseases (MEEGID XIII), held at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium, on the 11th ? 13th of May 2016. As before, the aim of the MEEGID congress series is to disrupt compartmentalization among scientists of different disciplines, and bring them in contact with other scientists that are not directly related to their own field of expertise. In order to do this, the MEEGID conferences feature plenary lectures of broad interest. Attendees are warmly encouraged to attend talks in different disciplines to encourage the emergence of fruitful multidisciplinary collaborations. Together, the MEEGID congress series and its companion journal, Infection, Genetics and Evolution represent a unique forum for cross-fertilization between evolutionary science in the broad sense and biomedical research on infectious diseases.
Organized by Elsevier, MEEGID XIII will include 10 ? 15 plenary lectures, 15 ? 20 four hour-specialized symposia, 5-10 one-hour express debates and several poster sessions. Special emphasis will be given to health problems of specific interest to the present world: Ebola, tuberculosis, AIDS, malaria, cancer and infectious diseases, to name a few. Plenary lectures and symposia will also deal with transversal topics, such as population genetics, evolution, speciation, bioinformatics, whole genome sequencing analysis and -omics analyses. Communications on genetics, genomics, proteomics, population biology, mathematical modeling and bioinformatics are welcome. They may deal with the host, the pathogen, or the vector in case of vector-borne diseases. Papers considering host + pathogen or pathogen + vector (co-evolution) are warmly encouraged. All pathogens are within the scope of MEEGID, including viruses, parasitic protozoa, helminths, fungal organisms and prions. All infectious models can be considered, including those of agronomical or veterinary relevance. Selected papers communicated in the framework of MEEGID XIII will be published after peer-review in a special issue of Infection, Genetics and Evolution.
During the conference, awards will be attributed to the best communication, the best communication by a student, the best communication by a scientist from the Southern World and the best poster communication. Each prizewinner will be offered a free 2-year subscription to Infection, Genetics and Evolution
Attending this conference will enable you to access unique, high-quality content, learn about the latest developments in infectious diseases and epidemiology research from experts in the field, present your latest research to your peers and network with an interdisciplinary group from around the world - including academics and researchers, as well as health and industry professionals. We look forward to welcoming you in Antwerp in May 2016!
