Special Issue on "Towards HABITAT-III: Housing and Sustainable Urban Development"
Urbanization is regarded as a driving force as well as a source of development with the power to change and improve lives. The United Nations (UN) acknowledges that urbanization is an unprecedented challenge. It projects that by the middle of the century four out of every five people might be living in towns and cities.
Habitat III is a United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development The conference will be held at Quito, Ecuador, from 17 ? 20 October, 2016. The UN has stressed that it is time to think urban: to mobilize the global community and focus on all levels of human settlements for demographic and economic growth.
Habitat III is promoting a new model of urban development that is able to integrate all facets of sustainable development so as to promote equity, welfare and shared prosperity. In light of the above, the National Institute of Urban Affairs will bring out a special issue of the journal Environment and Urbanization, ASIA focusing on the themes discussed at HABITAT III, with particular reference to Asian cities.
We solicit papers on the following themes: Social Cohesion and Equity - Livable Cities, Urban Frameworks, Spatial Development, Urban Economy, Urban Ecology and Environment, Urban Housing and Basic Services. The selected papers will be published in the September 2016 special issue of the journal. Authors interested in contributing papers may refer to the guidelines for submitting manuscript at http://eua.sagepub.com/.
The manuscript may be emailed to the Editor at dkundu-AT-niua.org by 15th February, 2016.
