Seafloor Mapping along Continental Shelves:
Research and Techniques for Visualizing Benthic Environments
Edited by
Charles W. Finkl and Christopher Makowski
We solicit authors to propose book chapters for a new volume in the Coastal Research Library (CRL) entitled Seafloor Mapping along Continental Shelves: Research and Techniques for Visualizing Benthic Environments. This volume will focus on methods, techniques, and visualization of shelf environments from the tropics to polar regions. We wish to provide a multi-disciplined synthesis that amalgamates mapping efforts in the fields of geomorphology, biology, geology, underwater archeology, remote sensing, engineering, etc. Each chapter will highlight high-resolution figures that showcase visualization of seafloor topography and marine environments. The volume will include but not be limited to examples of: aerial photography, satellite images (ASTER, GeoEye, IKONOS, LANDSAT, MODIS, QuickBird, SPOT, etc.), multibeam (ship-, ROV- or AUV-borne) bathymetry and backscatter data, sidescan and interferometric sonar mapping, SHOALS Lidar, LADS, sub-bottom (chirp) profiling, and seabed video systems (towed camera systems and ROV-based data). Please submit proposals to cfinkl-AT-cerf-jcr.com.
The Coastal Research Library (CRL), a book series published by ©Springer (Dordrecht, The Netherlands), disseminates information to the coastal research community. The CRL covers all aspects of coastal research including but not limited to relevant aspects of geological sciences, biology (incl. ecology and coastal marine ecosystems), geomorphology (physical geography), climate, littoral oceanography, coastal hydraulics, environmental (resource) management, engineering, and remote sensing. Policy, coastal law, and relevant issues such as conflict resolution and risk management would also be covered by the CRL.
