On behalf of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and the over 200,000 ophthalmologists worldwide, it is my honor and pleasure to invite you to the 2016 World Ophthalmology Congress®, the “must attend” global meeting in ophthalmology.
The WOC2016 is sponsored by the ICO, hosted by the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology (SMO) and co-hosted by the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO). This world congress brings together the approximately 130 member societies of the ICO and ophthalmologists from around the world to share the latest developments in Ophthalmology.
You will not want to miss the innovative new program formats for the scientific program in Guadalajara. The Scientific Program Committee is developing more interactive sessions, which I know will be very exciting and informative. The WOC exhibition provides a unique opportunity for you to interact with the top providers of products and services in our field, and I encourage you to spend time visiting the exhibition.
Guadalajara is Mexico's second largest city, and in many respects is the quintessential Mexican destination. The city is the birthplace of mariachi music, but also one of the country’s innovation centers, sometimes referred to as Mexico's Silicon Valley. Guadalajara is the capital of the state of Jalisco and the 9th largest city in Latin America.
In Guadalajara itself are two of 32 UNESCO designated World Heritage Sites in the Americas including the top ranked site: Agave landscape and ancient industrial facilities of Tequila, Jalisco ? inscribed 2006; and the 17th site Instituto Cultural Cabañas, Guadalajara, Jalisco ? inscribed 1997.
The ICO, the SMO and PAAO assure you an exciting and educationally superior meeting, and I look forward to seeing you in Guadalajara in February 2016.
