17th International Symposium on Olfaction and Taste (ISOT2016) to be held on June 5-9, 2016 in Yokohama, Japan.
The purpose of ISOT is to bring together researchers from around the world to present and discuss their latest research on chemoreception broadly defined, not only taste and smell, but also trigeminal and interoceptive systems. ISOT began in 1962 with its inaugural meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, and has convened every 3-4 years as the meeting venue rotated between the United States, Europe and Japan reflecting cooperation of the three large regional organizations; the Association for Chemoreception Sciences (AChemS), the European Chemoreception Research Organization (ECRO), and the Japanese Association for the Study of Taste and Smell (JASTS). The 17th ISOT meeting will be held under the umbrella of JASTS in combination with the 50th Annual Meeting of JASTS. The ISOT2016 is co-hosted by JASTS along with Asian and Oceanian regional societies (AACSS: Australasian Association for ChemoSensory Science, and KoSCI: the Korean Society of Chemoreception and Ingestive behavior).
The program committee of ISOT2016 will soon be formed by the members of JASTS, AChemS, ECRO, AACSS and KoSCI, with the purpose of creating an engaging and scientifically interesting program that will be of keen interest to you. The topics will cover diverse areas of research ranging from the molecular analysis of chemoreception to higher processing of chemosensory input to the brain, both basic and clinical approaches will be well represented. We strongly encourage you to participate in the creation and content of the program by submitting session proposals. About 15 sessions will be selected from the proposals and these comprise a very important part of the meeting.
The meeting venue, Yokohama, is a vibrant international port city located in the center of Japan, close to Tokyo and Haneda Airport/Tokyo International Airport (within 30 min by train), and not too far from Narita International Airport (90 min by train). Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city with a population of 3.7 million, and is truly an attractive tourist city, full of traditional culture, a variety of cuisines, diverse entertainment and a beautiful cityscape that provides a fusion of lush nature with modern urbanism with the beautiful presence of Mt. Fuji a little further in the background. Early June is before the rainy season in the middle of Japan and the weather should be favorable (not hot and humid, but beyond the control of the meeting organizers).
We very much look forward to your participation in the ISOT2016 and to welcoming you to Yokohama.
Yours Sincerely,
Yuzo Ninomiya, ISOT2016 President
Takenori Miyamoto, Local Committee Chair
Kazushige Touhara, Program Chair
