KDDSB10: Special Track on Knowledge Discovery and DecisionrSystems in Biomedicine (http://www.unicampus.it/KDDSB10/)rrat IEEE CBMS 2010: 23rd IEEE International Symposium onrCOMPUTER-BASED MEDICAL SYSTEMSrrOctober 12-15, 2010, Perth, AustraliarrThe vast amount of data generated by biomedical devices orrretrieved from archives motivates the development of tools thatrare able to effectively and efficiently handle, analyse andrmake use of this data.rrOn the one side, data mining has become a popular and effective wayrof discovering new knowledge from large and complex data sets, andrparticularly, medical data sets. Advances in data mining research andrtechnology have made it possible to solve many interesting problems inrmedical diagnostics and healthcare.rrOn the other side, computer-based systems supporting the medical decisionsrhave attracted many research efforts. These systems can pursue different objectives, rsuch as pre-selecting the cases to be examined, serving as a second reader orrworking as a tool for training and education of specialized medical personnel.rCurrently, the development of versatile systems applicable to different workingrscenarios is a major issue. Indeed, they call for careful design of data processingrmethods as wells as the definition of decision rules. To the same extent, therdefinition of performance evaluation criteria is mandatory to ensure that suchrsystems work safely and profitably.rrThis special track aims at bringing together researchers in the multi-disciplinaryrarea of knowledge discovery and computer-based decision systems in biomedicine, rand at providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of their researchractivities. Engineers, scientists, psychologists, clinicians and computer andrcognitive scientists, as well as research project managers involved in suchrbiomedical projects are encouraged to submit papers to this special track.rrTOPICS OF INTERESTrrThe topics of interest include but are not limited to:r- Classification, clustering and association analysis for biomediciner- Recognition and biomedical imaging for knowledge discovery and decision supportr- Feature extraction, selection and transformation for biomedical datar- Computer aided diagnosisr- Decision support systems in biomediciner- Diagnostic systems based on information fusionr- Data streams and longitudinal data analysisr- Mining biomedical data with time- and context-changing patterns and data distributionsr- Mining complex heterogeneous biomedical data including signals, images, clinical data, rgenomic and proteomic datar- Retrieval of complex biomedical datar- Performance evaluation, ROC curve, accuracy measure and assessment, error cost analysisrand risk minimizationr- Cost-sensitive data miningr- Visualization, evaluation and interpretation of data mining resultsr- Visualization of clinical data and visual data miningr- Knowledge-driven data mining approachesr- Case studies based on large medical databasesr- Machine learning and data mining tools in medical applicationsr- Knowledge Discovery for personalisation and adaptation of medical information systems and servicesr- Medical knowledge elicitation, representation and integration in computer-based medical systemsrrIMPORTANT DATESrrPaper submission due: June 24, 2010.rNotification of acceptance: August 2, 2010.rCamera ready papers: September 2, 2010.rPre-registration deadline: September 2, 2010.rCBMS 2010 Symposium: October 12-15, 2010.rrPAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATIONrrSubmitted papers have to be original, containing new androriginal results.rThe papers must be prepared following the IEEE two-column format (ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/8.5x11%20-%20Formatting%20files/instruct.pdf) and should not exceed the length of 6 (six) Letter-sized pages. LaTeX (ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/8.5x11%20-%20Formatting%20files/IEEE_CS_Latex.zip) or Microsoft Word (ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/8.5x11%20-%20Formatting%20files/instruct.dot) templates can be used when preparing the papers. Please, note that only PDF format of submissions is allowed.rElectronic manuscripts should be submitted via the EasyChairr(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cbms201...) webrsubmission system (please select Special Track on KnowledgerDiscovery and Decision Systems in Biomedicine).rrTRACK CHAIRSrrMykola Pechenizkiy rEindhoven University of Technology, the NetherlandsrrSeppo Puuronen rUniversity of Jyvaskyla, FinlandrrPaolo SodarUniversity Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, ItalyrrFrancesco TortorellarUniversity degli Studi di Cassino, ItalyrrAlexey Tsymbal rSiemens AG, GermanyrrFor further questions please contact Mykola Pechenizkiyr(m.pechenizkiy-AT-tue.nl) or Paolo Soda (p.soda-AT-unicampus.it)
