AG 2015 - Special session on Affect and Games
Topics/Call fo Papers
Games have become not only the most profitable media industry, but also the most powerful affect elicitor, beyond film, music and literature. Predefined challenges and goals, free exploration, interaction with virtual characters and the environment, competition and cooperation with other humans are some of the elements that allow games to elicit multiple and varied emotions and a stronger sense of engagement and immersion compared to other media. This symbiosis of affect and player experience has two major implications for the interplay between affective computing and game research. On one hand, games offer a rich and highly interactive platform for emotion researchers to elicit and monitor affective experiences in the lab. On the other hand, game research can benefit from the advancements in emotion modelling, detection and expression to enhance the capabilities of games, in particular towards the automatic adaptation of in-game experience.
The aim of this special session is to bring together high quality publications concerning the use of games in emotion research, the study of player experience as an affective construct, and the applications of affective computing to games.
Topics
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
o Affect elicitation via games
o Models of player experience
o Affect detection of players
o Affect models for game agents
o Annotation of player experience
o Affect expression via agents and game content
o Affect-based game adaptation
o Emotion in multi-player and social games
o Affective game engines
Submission
This special session will be held as part of the ACII’15 conference. Authors should submit papers through the main conference submission website.
