PerEd 2010 - The Third Workshop on Pervasive Computing Education
Topics/Call fo Papers
CALL FOR PAPERS (with apologies for cross-postings):
PerEd 2010:
The Third Workshop on Pervasive Computing Education
http://mmis.informatik.uni-rostock.de/PerEd2010/
... held in conjunction with Ubicomp 2010
in Copenhagen, Denmark, September 26-29 2010
Research in ubiquitous and pervasive computing is multidisciplinary by nature.
Whereas this is clear in the context of bringing different sciences together
to construct and conduct new environments on the hardware, software and
engineering level, there are other interesting topics of discussion, which are
seldom addressed yet. We will focus in this workshop on: a) how can the
ubiquitous technology be used in educational settings (and for example does it
require new instructional design?) and b) does the use of ubiquitous
technology affect the way people learn? PerEd 2010 will provide a forum to
present and discuss topics like the state of the art, work in progress and
lessons learned, with respect to education within ubiquitous computing
environments and teaching the underlying technologies.
As its predecessors, the Third Workshop on Pervasive Computing Education is
organized around the following themes:
* Course content and approaches to teaching pervasive computing and related
topics;
* Lessons learned from courses;
* Teaching materials, including text books and web-based content;
* Concepts of structuring teaching material in a ubiquitous setting;
* Reports on the integration of research and teaching through projects;
* The use of pervasive computing tools, toolkits, and technology in education.
The workshop will include a variety of presentation formats to ensure
representation of mature innovations as well as on-going experiments and to
promote discussion and interaction. Submissions are sought for:
* Regular papers, which will be peer reviewed and published in a proceedings;
* Work-in-progress presentations;
* Technology Demonstrations;
* Position papers.
The goal of the workshop is to foster the young pervasive / ubiquitous
computing education community.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Submission deadline: August 2, 2010
Notification of acceptance: August 16, 2010
Workshop: September 26, 2010
SUBMISSION DETAILS:
All papers should be written in english, formatted according to the Ubicomp
Main track templates (http://www.ubicomp2010.org/templates) and should be
submitted as PDF file to sebastian.bader-AT-uni-rostock.de. The length is
limitted to 8 pages for full papers, work-in-progress presentations and
technology demonstrations, and to 2 pages for position papers. The proceedings
will be published as ...
ORGANISATION:
The workshop is organized by
* Sebastian Bader: Department of Computer Science, Rostock of University,
Germany (Ubiquitous computing, intention analysis, strategy synthesis,
neural-symbolic integration)
* Thomas Kirste: Department of Computer Science, Rostock of University,
Germany (Ubiquitous computing, intention analysis, strategy synthesis,
probabilistic models)
* William G. Griswold: Computer Science and Engineering / UC San Diego, USA
(infrastructure for ubiquitous computing, invention of new programming
tools, aspect-oriented software development, compiler technology)
* Alke Martens: Department of Computer Science, University of Rostock, Germany
(eLearning and cognitive systems, software design, instructional/didactical
design and empirical investigation)
