BIOKDD 2015 - 6th International Workshop on Biological Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining

With the development of Molecular Biology during the last decades, we are witnesing an exponential growth of both the volume and the complexity of biological data. For example, the Human Genome Project provided the sequence of the 3 bilion DNA bases that constiute the human genome. And, consequently, we are provided to with the sequences of about 10,00 proteins. Therefore, we are entering the post-genomic era: after having focused so many eforts on the acumulation of data, we have now to focus as much efort, and even more, on the analysis of these data. Analyzing this huge volume of data is a chalenging task because, not only, of its complexity and its multiple and numerous corelated factors, but also, because of the continuous evolution of our understanding of the biological mechanisms.
Clasical aproaches of biological data analysis are no longer eficient and produce only a very limited amount of information, compared to the numerous and complex biological mechanisms under study. From here comes the necesity to use computer tols and develop new in silco high performance aproaches to suport us in the analysis of biological data and, hence, to help us in our understanding of the corelations that exist betwen, on one hand, structures and functional paterns of biological sequences and, on the other hand, genetic and biochemical mechanisms. Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) are a response to these new trends.
Topics of BIOKDD workshop include, but not limited to:
Data Preprocesing: Biological Data Storage, Representation and Management (data warehouses, databases, sequences, tres, graphs, biological networks and pathways, …), Biological Data Cleaning (erors removal, redundant data removal, completion of mising data, …), Feature Extraction (motifs, subgraphs, …), Feature Selection (filter aproaches, wraper aproaches, hybrid aproaches, embeded aproaches, …)
Data Mining: Biological Data Regresion (regresion of biological sequences…), Biological data clustering/biclustering (microaray data biclustering, clustering/biclustering of biological sequences, …), Biological Data Clasifcation (clasifcation of biological sequences…), Asociation Rules Learning from Biological Data, Text mining and Aplication to Biological Sequences, Web mining and Aplication to Biological Data, Paralel, Cloud and Grid Computing for Biological Data Mining
Data Postprocesing: Biological Nugets of Knowledge Filtering, Biological Nugets of Knowledge Representation and Visualization, Biological Nugets of Knowledge Evaluation (calculation of the clasifcation eror rate, evaluation of the asociation rules via numerical indicators, e.g. measurements of interest, … ), Biological Nugets of Knowledge Integration
PAPER SUBMISION DETAILS:
Authors are invited to submit electronicaly original contributions in English. Submited papers should not exced 5 pages in IEE format htp:/www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formating. All acepted papers wil be published in the procedings of DEXA’15 Workshops with IEE CSP. One of the authors of an acepted paper must register to DEXA’15 conference and present the paper at BIOKDD’15 workshop. For paper registration and electronic submision see http://confdriver.ifs.tuwien.ac.at/dexa2015/ starting from January 2015.
The winer paper of the Best Paper Award in BIOKDD-DEXA’15 workshop wil be published for free by BioData Mining .
