NVis 2015 - International Workshop Narrative Visualization

Narrative visualization is an emerging genre focused on the effective communication of complex data to an audience using visualization, in a way that is both engaging and that promotes the sharing of insights. This genre of visualization emphasizes the communicative intent of visualization and its popularity is rising among different audiences but specially when used in journalism. Using narrative elements in visualizations often help create a structured interpretation path that usually does not exist in traditional information visualization. Moreover, these narrative driven visualizations can exist independently, without the need of other supportive means of storytelling, being able to get the point across easily and in sufficient detail for the audience to clearly understand.
The Narrative Visualization symposium will be focused on the review of current state-of-the-art developments and the outline future directions for research and practice around storytelling using visualization. The goal is to highlight examples of effective use of storytelling in visualization, approach issues such as interactivity and visual metaphors, identify adequate tools in the area, and to identify areas for further research.
The scope of the NVis symposium will cover all aspects of Narrative Visualization and of telling stories with data, which includes many different issues such as:
