QoEWC 2015 - First International Workshop on Quality of Experience-Based Wireless Communications (QoEWC)
Topics/Call fo Papers
In recent years, the multimedia service has been becoming the dominant service in 3G/4G networks. Such applications like video communication, online video/audio-sharing, voice messaging, multimedia broadcasting, etc. have gained their popularity among costumers. Traditional criteria for evaluating the overall performance of networks are summarized in several aspects such as error rates, bandwidth, throughput, transmission delay, availability, etc., which are commonly called quality of service (QoS). However, to evaluation the user-perceived quality of multimedia services over networks, only part of QoS can be involved (i.e., transmission delay), thus is not suitable. Quality of experience (QoE) is a subjective measure from the user’s perspective of the overall performance of the network services, which is related to but differs from QoS. Since user’s experience is the ultimate evaluation criterion of the network services, the overall performance of networks becomes less dependent on QoS of the multimedia streams. Therefore, we notice the demand for applying QoE into wireless communications. Based on this background, QoEWC is to provide an international forum for addressing the benefits and challenges of applying QoE to the management of current and future wireless communication systems and services. Although some solutions towards QoE-driven network and application management have been proposed in the literature, practical issues still need to be addressed for wireless communications.
Submissions are invited on the QoE-related research topics, spanning both theoretical and systems research. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
QoE-based resource allocation and management
QoE-based network management
Coding theory with criteria based on QoE
Multimedia processing with QoE
QoE-based cooperative computing networks
QoE-aware cross-layer design
Evaluation of QoE in QoS constrained communications
QoE relation and mapping to QoS
QoE for cloud service and infrastructure management
QoE-based routing schemes
Cognitive networks with QoE
QoE monitoring solution in wireless communications
