ANeT is an international network of scientists (myrmecologists) who conduct research on ants in Asia. ANeT was formally established during the first workshop and meeting held from 30 Oct. to 01 Nov. 1999 at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Maryati Mohamed (First President of ANeT, University Malaysia Sabah), Prof. Seiki Yamane (Kagoshima University, Japan), Mr. Decha Wiwatwitaya (Kasetsart University, Thailand), Dr. Yoshiaki Hashimoto (Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo, Japan), Dr. John R. Fellowes (Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, Hongkong) and other sixteen members were present among the founders of ANeT.
ANeT aspires to promote myrmecology research in Asia through
establishment of local ant collections, repositories and databases,
exchange of knowledge and information on ant identification through efficient communication,
exchange of ant specimens in accordance with the rules and regulations existing in the countries for ant research,
training of young undergraduate and graduate students in ant systematics and diversity and
preparation of taxonomic keys for subfamily, genus and species levels of local and regional ants.
