We have seen an explosion of information published over the World Wide Web in the past few years, especially with the exponential growth of Web 2.0, social media and the mobile web. This abundant amount of available information presents both unique challenges and unprecedented opportunities for computer scientists to discover useful knowledge from the Web. Among a variety of information retrieval and Web-mining topics, the development and application of machine learning techniques for Web-based, although not fully explored, have attracted increasing attention.
The aim of the special session is to provide an international forum of scientific research and development to explore the fundamental interactions between machine learning and information over the web. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to
* Machine learning for online information retrieval
* Web-based knowledge discovery
* Social network mining
* Learning from big Web data
* Crowdsourcing
* Opinion extraction and trend detection from web
* Knowledge inference in social networks
* Web-based healthcare informatics
* Web-based ontology learning
* Text mining
* Multimedia information retrieval and data mining
* Web-based decision support systems
* Digital libraries
