WoSAR 2014 - The 6th International Workshop on Software Aging and Rejuvenation

After more than nineteen years of research work in software aging and rejuvenation (SAR), this is the international event to bring together researchers and practitioners involved with the theoretical and experimental aspects of software aging and rejuvenation. As a satellite event of the premier symposium, ISSRE 2014, this workshop aims to provide a unique forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the state of the art and the new challenges in software aging and rejuvenation research, as well as providing a unique opportunity for establishing collaborations among several research groups interested in this research field.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
This call is an invitation to all researchers and practitioners with an interest about the following topics (but not limited to):
Modeling and characterization of the software aging phenomenon.
Design, implementation, and evaluation of rejuvenation mechanisms.
Aging monitoring and rejuvenation applied to industrial, large-scale, and mission critical systems.
Modeling, analysis and implementation of rejuvenation scheduling.
Experimental and empirical software aging detection techniques.
Prediction models for mean time to aging-related failures.
Machine learning applied to software aging characterization.
Control theory applied to software aging and rejuvenation.
Survivability applied to software aging and rejuvenation.
Test strategies focused on aging-related faults.
Novel applications for software rejuvenation.
Aging-oriented reliability growth models and reliability assessment.
Reports and analysis of real case studies.
Software rejuvenation benchmarking and metrics.
For all the above suggested topics, WoSAR is a unique forum to discuss the software aging and rejuvenation impacts on different domains of applicability such as: cloud computing, smart-grids, mobile, transportation, embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, medical devices, system of systems, and others.
PREVIOUS CONTEXT/HISTORY OF THE WORKSHOP
Since research on software aging and rejuvenation started in 1995, new results have been presented at major conferences like FTC, DSN, PRDC, WOSP, and ISSRE. Especially ISSRE proved a great venue for discussing the latest research, because many of its participants are interested in the topic, or even actively researching it. The First International Workshop on Software Aging and Rejuvenation (WoSAR), which took place as a satellite event of ISSRE 2008, was the first international event dedicated to bringing together researchers and practitioners involved with the theoretical and experimental aspects of software aging and rejuvenation. With around 30 participants, and presentations of 10 regular papers, WoSAR 2008 was very successful. Elsevier published a special issue on “Software Dependability” of the Journal of Systems and Software (vol. 83, no. 9, September 2010) with extended versions of papers presented at WoSAR 2008. In 2010, again as a satellite event of ISSRE, the second edition of WoSAR repeated the success obtained in 2008, having 11 regular paper presentations and two invited talks. In 2013, a special issue on “Software Aging and Rejuvenation” of Performance Evaluation (vol. 70, no. 3, March 2013), containing extended versions of papers presented at WoSAR 2010, was published. In 2011, WoSAR was held as a ISSRE’11 satellite workshop. As we planned in 2011, as one of the post-publication actions of WoSAR’11 a special issue of the ACM Journal of Emerging Technologies was prepared and published in 2014 (vol. 10, no. 1, January 2014) with the accepted extended versions of papers published in WoSAR’11. In WoSAR 2012 we had 10 accepted papers, whose extended versions were also published in another special issue of the ACM Journal of Emerging Technologies issued in 2014. In WoSAR 2013, 6 research papers were accepted, one invited talk and panel session with the participation of reference persons from academia and industry to discuss future research areas of software aging and rejuvenation. The CFP for a special issue on “Advances in Software Aging and Rejuvenation” of the IEEE Transaction on Emerging Topics in Computers was also presented during WoSAR 2013.
