VarDial 2014 - Workshop on Applying NLP Tools to Similar Languages, Varieties and Dialects (VarDial)
Topics/Call fo Papers
The interest in language resources and computational models for the study of similar languages, varieties and dialects has been growing substantially in the last few years. The VarDial workshop aims to provide a forum for scholars working on a range of topics related to the study of linguistic variation. The workshop will discuss computational methods, present new language resources; and corpus-driven exploitation of different degrees of linguistic variation such as lexicon and grammar.
For the NLP community, the interest in the impact of language variation in the development of language resources and NLP applications has been explored in recent years with experiments in different directions.
We welcome contributions dealing with one or more of the following topics:
Language Resources and Tools for Varieties and Dialects
Corpus compilation (comparable, parallel)
Adaptation of tools (taggers, parsers) for similar languages, varieties and dialects
Evaluation of LR and tools applied to language varieties
Reusability of LR in NLP applications (e.g. machine translation)
Corpus-driven studies in dialectology and language variation
NLP Tasks and Applications
Identification of lexical variation and lexical induction
Automatic classification of language varieties
Domain adaptation between language varieties
Identification of false friends
Machine translation between varieties and dialects
