The 13th National Communication Ethics Conference will be held June 4-6, 2014 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. The conference theme is “Rhetoric and Philosophy of Communication Ethics: Social Justice in Organizations and History.” The conference will consist of three distinct components.
1. Six invited keynote speakers with one presenting in the morning and one in the evening on each day of the conference. The speakers are Briankle Chang (University of Massachusetts), François Cooren (Université de Montréal), Gail T. Fairhurst (University of Cincinnati), Annette Holba (Plymouth State University), Ramsey Eric Ramsey (Arizona State University), and Ingrid Volkmer (University of Melbourne).
2. Panel presentations in the afternoon and early evening consisting of refereed submitted papers and panels.
3. Evening conversation with the keynote speakers hosted by Pat Gehrke (University of South Carolina) and Gina Ercolini (University of South Carolina) each evening, accompanied by wine and cheese.
Scholars from all related disciplines are invited to submit papers and panel proposals. The conference encourages historical and contemporary questions of ethics in human communication. Papers may address a variety of communication ethics issues arising from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Of particular interest are papers relating to communication ethics in three conceptual threads to be led by visiting scholars:
? Philosophy of communication/ethics
? Communication theory/ethics
? Communication ethics and social justice
? Corporate communication/ethics
Papers: Submissions should be double-spaced, with a maximum of 30 pages, including references. Any citation style is permitted (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago). Please indicate on the title page if the author is a graduate student and also if this presentation will be the author’s first at a professional conference (a debut presentation). Send papers as attached files via email to cec-AT-duq.edu.
Panel Proposals: Panel proposals may include up to five participants and a respondent. Please include one title page with a 500-word (maximum) abstract and rationale for the panel. Each presenter should include a title and 200-word abstract. Send the panel proposals as attached files to cec-AT-duq.edu.
We encourage both graduate and undergraduate papers. Please designate them.
All papers and panel proposals must be received by midnight March 1, 2014, to be considered for inclusion in the conference.
Cost for the conference, which includes daily lunches and daily evening receptions with wine and cheese, is as follows:
$250.00 for Faculty
$125.00 for Graduate Students
$75.00 for Undergraduate Students
Housing will be available at two different locations: (1) Cambria Suites for $114.00 per night (with free shuttle service), and (2) on campus housing for $36.00 per night (single occupancy); $31.50 per person per night (double occupancy); and a one time charge of $7.50 for linens for both single and double occupancy.
