Topics/Call fo Papers

Software Defined Networking is undoubtedly one of the chief trends in the ICT area. In the past years we have seen all big players in the networking arena starting to ride the SDN. Standardization work is actively ongoing in the Open Networking Forum (ONF), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) (e.g., I2RS, freshly formed Service Function Chaining (SFC) workgroup or recent initiatives to form VNFPool), while the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) just released several group specifications on Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). On top of the several exiting open-source SDN controllers, OpenDaylight reached significant momentum last year and arrived to its first official release in February 2014.
One goal of the workshop is to bring together industry and academia on the topics of SDN; in particular the workshop will feature an "industry forum", i.e., a session with presentations of key industrial players.
Contributions to the workshop
We are interested in both papers showing consolidated results and in position papers bringing up innovative ideas. Topics for contributions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Virtualization architectures
Forwarding abstractions, APIs, object models
Network Function Virtualization and SDN, network virtualization techniques
Optical extensions to OpenFlow, SDN
Wireless integration, characterization of wireless interfaces, flows, handover support
Evolved packet core, LTE support for OpenFlow
New controller architectures, APIs and northbound interfaces
Interoperation of cloud architectures and SDN
New switch architectures supporting SDN
New networking paradigms like Information Centric Networks (ICN) and relation to SDN
Security implications of SDN and security enhancements to SDN, as well as new security services enabled by SDN
Carrier-grade SDN architectures and equipment
Practical experiments on SDN/Cloud/OpenFlow
Testbeds
Identification of use cases for SDN, SDN-related business models, strategic role of SDN in network evolution
Regulatory aspects around network virtualization
SDN frameworks and tools, SDN-based equipment: controllers, switches, integrated development environment, testing and debugging environment.
Workshop proceedings
Submission format is IEEE Conference Style in A4 format, up to 6 pages, double column, 10pt font. Please use standard IEEE conference proceedings templates in A4 format. EWSDN paper submission will be managed using the EasyChair submission system.
EWSDN workshop proceedings will be submitted for indexing and publication to IEEE Xplore. Previous workshop proceedings are also available for EWSDN 2012 and EWSDN 2013
