Welcome to the Jilin 2014 International Conference on Developing China’s Innovation Based Economy Through technology Entrepreneurship!
29-30 April, 2014
Jilin, Changchun, China
About the conference
In recent years China has become an important contributor to world economic development. China is efficient-driven economy, not yet an innovation based economy. China aspires to become a world leader in science, technology and innovation within the next few decades. China regards acquiring autonomous innovation capability central in their endeavors to move towards innovation-based economy, making the transition from catch-up phase to a frontier phase.
According to a recent study by prof. Mariana Mazzucato, in the West the government and not the private sector, played and continue to play an important role in generating breakthrough innovations. Mazzucato argues that breakthrough innovations depend on the government ? it is the government that is behind the boldest risks and most innovative breakthrough technologies ? thus the Entrepreneurial State. Will this be the case in China? In addition to the role technology entrepreneurship has in moving China’s economy towards innovation-based economy, technology entrepreneurship is also important for sustainable development as Nobel Prize Laureate prof. Dan Schechtman puts it: “Technological entrepreneurship is a key to the well-being of the world”, which is also the title of his keynote lecture at the opening of the conference.
Conference chair:
Zheng Li, Jilin University, China ; Tsvi Vinig, University of Amsterdam Business School, The Netherlands
