Knowledge Crossing Borders: Building Partnerships Through Shared Knowledge
Introduction
The Knowledge Crossing Borders Planning Team is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the 2014 KCB conference. You are encouraged to participate in the “Knowledge Crossing Borders: Building Partnerships through Shared Knowledge,” a multi-institutional conference to be held on the campus of the Universidad National (UNA), Heredia, Costa Rica. Program participants will share effective scholarly, pedagogical, and administrative practices with their international counterparts.
Program Objectives
The International Higher Education Congress seeks to build a sustainable future through global partnerships in higher education. The conference theme-Knowledge Crossing Borders, Building Partnerships Thorough Shared Knowledge ? includes the research, pedagogical, outreach, and administrative functions of higher education. The conference will examine how knowledge transactions across regional and international borders create challenges and transformative opportunities for cooperation, change, creativity, and innovation.
Program costs
Price to attend the conference for Faculty is $125 (discount to $120 if presenting a paper. Students $50
Travel Support
Individuals will be required to support the expense related to their participation from their own funds toward the cost of participation. We encourage participants to anticipate their costs and apply to their institution, departments or professional associations for any financial support.
Submissions
The conference especially seeks papers that focus on border-crossing perspectives in broad contexts.
Topics should address at least one of these topics of inquiry:

? Ethics and the Role of Higher Education
? International Cooperation and Institutions of Higher Education
? Higher Education and Advances in the area of Health Worldwide

Knowledge Crossing Borders: Building Partnerships through Shared Knowledge
Topic Areas
The thematic areas of CIESUP 2014 are inspired by the recommendations of the Governing Caucus during the Congress of 2012 held at West Chester University, therefore, the papers presented will promote discussion on these subject areas. Based on the recommendations of this Conclave, within each theme several subtopics are indicated to be served as guidance to the speakers, they are not exhaustive or restrictive.
Communication technology and information in Higher Education
Presentations providing leadership in the ethical and appropriate use of technology.
Papers detailing the effective implementation of technology in teaching and learning and application of knowledge.
Papers describing the optimization of technology in higher education and advancing the role of universities in expanding cooperation in the fields of science, technology, business, government and globalization.
Presentations providing systems to measure the benefits and recognition of the application of technology in learning processes.
World peace and Higher Education
Presentations providing best practices to facilitate cultural exchange and dialogue, especially the inclusion of youth in civic participation.
Papers describing facilitating global and regional economic development for all locations.
Presentations shared curriculum in promoting world peace and domestic tranquility.
Higher Education and Poverty Reduction
Papers that model how universities can provide access to education for all people, helping in the economic development and poverty eradication .
Papers that model how universities should create learning societies that promote the role of higher education in promoting charities locally, regionally and internationally.
Papers investigating the moral obligation to convene , connect and empower all stakeholders in order to promote economic development .
Ethics and the Role of Higher Education
Presentations promoting citizenship and ethical leadership, including hours of student volunteer service, increase the ethical experience of freshmen, and include social activism and social responsibility as part of the teaching practices of ethics.
Presentations including a constant emphasis on the integration of ethical issues into the curriculum.
Papers investigating best practices in order to promote and identify ethical models.
Papers that demonstrate and model ethical behavior in higher education.
International cooperation and higher education institutions
Presentations that create academic mobility. Determine, for example, how the equivalence of work (credit transfer) is determined, and how a comprehensive accreditation process is established.
Presentations lining the mission of a university with international collaboration through education, government and business sectors through strategic planning. Focus on the needs to be addressed as the basis of cooperation agreements. Develop a set of standard guidelines for international agreements.
Papers that use new techniques to promote international collaboration, both for monitoring and ongoing dialogue.
Papers that encourage expectations graduates will be prepared to work effectively, worldwide and become global citizens. Recognize and express the value and return on investment for an international education.
Higher Education and advances in the area of global health
Papers that develop a broader definition of futuristic health care to meet the needs of current and emerging health.
Papers seeking solutions to the growing needs of infrastructure for health care support populations and demands for costs through research and education.
Presentations promoting better use of medical knowledge and the tools and the advancement of preventive healthcare .
Papers that discuss the use of technology to disseminate policies and programs related to health , including information on infectious diseases.
Applicants should submit proposals that comply with the following structures:
1. Individual presentations not to exceed 20 minutes
2. Panels or workshops that may be structured with three or more presentations for a total of 60 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes of audience response
3. Poster sessions that will include 60 minutes of scheduled presence and dialogue with conference attendees
Submissions should be in Microsoft Word, double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font.
Full papers (15-20 pages) will receive blind peer review evaluations. Notification will be sent in May.
Please include a one paragraph abstract and a few sentences of biographical information about yourself.
Selection Process ~
Applications will be reviewed by peer selection committee.
Decisions will be based upon quality and alignment with conference goals.
Applications welcome from March 1 - June 1, 2014.
