ISCS 2014 - Second Annual International Symposium on Comparative Sciences
Topics/Call fo Papers
The 2nd Annual International Symposium on Comparative Sciences (ISCS 2014) will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, 7-10 October 2014.
ISCS 2014 will provide a unique opportunity to reflect upon the theory, method, and research of comparative sciences across disciplines and fields. Symposium participants, including researchers, representatives of global institutions, civil society, and practitioners will have the opportunity to explore the adequacy and future of comparative science, moving us towards a more holistic understanding of the comparative method, comparative theories, and comparative research on issues relevant both within and across fields of study. A goal of the symposium is to spark new conversations about the rationales, foci, methods, and meanings of comparison science.
We particularly encourage scholars from all disciplines and fields to share their perspectives on a reinvigorated framing of the “comparative sciences” concept.
Proposal Types and Sections
With the above in mind, the ISCS 2014 Program Committee invites you to submit:
Paper proposals
Roundtable proposals
All proposals should contribute to the advancement of theory, practice, methodology, or fieldwork in the comparative sciences, broadly speaking.
Proposals may be prepared specifically for inclusion in one of the following sections, or as a cross-sectional contribution:
Section 1: Society, School, History
Papers are invited that examine methodologies of comparison, or provide results of empirical comparative studies, or use interdisciplinary approaches in dealing with themes relating to society, schools and history. These could come from fields such as (but not limited to) Comparative Education, Comparative History, Comparative Sociology, and Comparative Anthropology.
For questions or comments, please contact the Section 1 Chair: Prof. Dr. Charl Wolhuter, North-West University, South Africa, Charl.Wolhuter-AT-nwu.ac.za
Section 2: Legislation, Labor, Business
This section invites papers discussing the broad topics of legislation, business and labour from a comparative or interdisciplinary perspective, presenting empirical or academic analysis. This can include Comparative Law, Comparative Business or Labour Studies carried out by practitioners or academic researchers. Submissions should set out how the proposed paper contributes to the comparative or interdisciplinary aspect.
For questions or comments, please contact the Section 2 Chair: Dr. Maren Heidemann, LLM, University of Glasgow, UK, Maren.Heidemann-AT-glasgow.ac.uk
Section 3: Civilization, Culture, Language
This section welcomes papers that draw on multidisciplinary theories and methodologies in the exploration of data across regions and subject areas, papers that specifically explore the different approaches to comparative studies in the specific areas of Linguistics, Religion, Politics and other related areas both in specific regions and across regions, and papers that focus on the exploration of generic methodologies of comparison in the relevant disciplines. Papers can either be a presentation of the findings of empirical studies or theoretical engagement with the concept of comparative studies.
For questions or comments, please contact the Section 3 Chair: Dr. Gordon O. Ade-Ojo, University of Greenwich, UK, G.O.Ade-Ojo-AT-greenwich.ac.uk
