The Hamburg Innovation Symposium (THIS) 2014
on
Open and Collaborative Innovation in the Digital Era
will be held on 29-30 May 2014 in Hamburg, Germany, and focus on a broad range of aspects of open and collaborative innovation. Besides keynote speakers that are leading experts on the topic, it will bring together established scholars and young researchers to discuss their current research on the topic. The four following topic sessions are planned:
Inbound open innovation (OI): Its relation to absorptive capacity in the digital era
Outbound OI: The role of selective revealing, licensing and spillovers in the digital era
Collaborative open innovation: Innovation networks and crowds in the digital era
Open and Collaborative Innovation & ICT: the role of standards and platforms
It is organized with support of the Körber Stiftung and the Chair of Management & Digital Markets at the University of Hamburg. The symposium is furthermore coordinated with a PhD summer school organized by a research cooperation between Aarhus University, University of South Denmark, University of Hamburg and University of Kiel.
Keynote speakers
Ammon Salter, University of Bath, UK
Ammon Salter is Professor in Innovation at the University of Bath School of Management and Research Director of the UK Innovation Research Centre (funded by ESRC, BIS, NESTA and TSB).
His research focuses on the sources and determinants of innovation. In particular, Professor Salter is interested in open and distributed models of innovation, social networks and university-industry collaboration.
He has taught, advised and collaborated with a range of companies, such as Arup, IBM and Laing O'Rourke, and governments, including the European Commission and the UK Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, on issues relating to innovation.
Oliver Alexy, TU München, Germany
Professor Alexy (b. 1980) is active in the field of management research. His main focus is on the contribution of organization design and capabilities toward the strategic renewal of established companies and the establishment and growth of start-ups. In this context he particularly focuses on the role of open and distributed innovation processes and networks. Professor Alexy worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London where he was appointed temporary lecturer in 2011. He has been a guest researcher at Harvard Business School and MIT (2008) and Politecnico di Milano (2011). In 2012 he accepted an offer to take on the newly created professorship in strategic entrepreneurship.
Linus Dahlander, ESMT Berlin, Germany
Linus Dahlander is an associate professor at ESMT European School of Management and Technology and the inaugural holder of the KPMG Chair in Innovation. From 2006 to 2008, Linus was an assistant professor and an Advanced Institute of Management Research Fellow with the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group at Imperial College Business School in the UK. From 2008 to 2010, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. His current research investigates how new ideas and innovations are developed in networks and communities. Linus is particularly interested in situations where problems are increasingly complex and a large number of individuals collaborate to advance a knowledge frontier.
