After nine successful conferences held in France (2003), Singapore (2004), Canada (2005), Northern Ireland (2006), Japan (2007), USA (2008), France (2009), Korea (2010) and Canada (2011) the 10th International Conference on Smart homes and health Telematics will be hosted for the first time in Italy, in the Tuscany region, from the 13th to 5th June 2012.
*** SCOPE AND AIMS ****
A Smart Home can be considered to be an augmented environment with the ability to consolidate embedded computers, information appliances, micro/nano systems, and multi-modal sensors to offer people unprecedented levels of access to information and assistance from information and communication technology. Health Telematics makes the most of networks and telecommunications to provide, within the home environment, health services, expertise and information and hence radically transform the way health-related services are conceived and delivered. We believe that in the future ageing and disabled people will use smart assistive technology to perform daily living activities, socialize, and enjoy entertainment and leisure activities.
Nowadays networks, microprocessors, memory chips, smart sensors and actuators are faster, cheaper, more intelligent and smaller than ever. Current advances in such enabling technologies coupled with evolving care paradigms allows us to foresee novel applications and services for improving the quality of life for ageing and disabled people both inside and outside of their homes. The conference will present and discuss the proven or expected impact of services and solutions that are supported by the latest approaches and technical solutions in the area of Smart Homes, Health Telematics and emerging enabling technologies. Conference topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Intelligent Environments / Smart Homes
Medical Data Collection and Processing
Human-Machine Interface / Ambient Intelligence
Modeling of Physical and Conceptual Information in Intelligent Environments
Vision / Hearing / Cognitive Devices
Tele-Assistance and Tele-Rehabilitation
Personal Robotics and Smart Wheelchairs
Context Awareness / Autonomous Computing
Home Networks / Residential Gateways
Wearable Sensors / Integrated Micro/Nano Systems / Home Health Monitoring
Social / Privacy / Security Issues
Middleware Support for Smart Home and Health Telematic Services
Health Technology Assessment and Impact Analysis
Policy and Guidelines for Health 2.0
Service Model Best practices
ICOST is considered as a premier venue for the presentation and discussion of research in the design, development, deployment and evaluation of Smart Environments, Assistive Technologies and Health Telematic systems. The conference aims to bring together stakeholders from clinical, academic and industrial perspectives and along with end users and their family carers explore how Smart Homes and Health Telematics can foster independent living and offer an enhanced quality of life.
Each year, ICOST has a specific theme. The theme chosen for 2012 will focus on the ‘impact’ of technology as a solution to prevent and/or treat chronic conditions. ICOST2012 is especially interested in receiving submissions, which detail engagement with end-users and/or describe the outcomes from technology evaluations involving people living with a chronic disease and/or clinicians treating such conditions. Papers or special sessions addressing the following topics are especially welcome:
Studies detailing large scale service deployment and impact evaluation
The application of cost effective and readily available ‘everyday’ technologies to support chronic prevention and treatment
Health economic evaluation of technology based solutions
Business model re-engineeering in healthcare based on early discharge
Challenges for truly ‘smart homes’
Technology solutions to inspire the policy makers
ICOST2012 invites participants to present and discuss their experiences in the design, development, deployment and evaluation that demonstrate significant contributions in the areas of smart homes, health telematics and assistive technologies. ICOST 2012 will provide a dynamic program which will incorporate a range of technical, clinical and industrial related keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations along with demonstrations and technical exhibits.
*** SUBMISSION OF PAPERS ***
December 19, 2011: Submission system is now open!!
Presentation:
There will be a combination of presentations including scientific papers, posters, exhibits and technology demonstrations. Prospective authors are invited, in the first instance, to submit papers for oral presentation in any of the areas of interest for this conference as well as proposals for Special Sessions. The submission for evaluation should be in the form of an 8 page paper written in English. If authors are interested to provide a short demonstration in conjunction with paper presentations then please append a section to your paper ‘demonstration description’ detailing the service scenario addressed.
Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings to be published by Springer (pending contract). The submitted papers should not exceed 8 pages and must follow the guidelines found on the conference website (www.conference-icost.org/authorInstruction.php)?
Submission:
Papers must be submitted electronically in PDF or RTF/DOC format at the following address:
