GPCO 2014 - 6th German Polish Conference on Optimization ? Methods and Applications

6th German Polish Conference on Optimization ? Methods and Applications with special emphasis on Smooth and Nonsmooth Optimization, Variational Problems, Variational Inequalities, and Optimal Control (GPCO6) will be held at the Leucorea in Wittenberg from February 28 to March 4, 2014. To maintain a strong “workshop” atmosphere the number of participants is restricted to about 60.
The Leucorea is one of the oldest universities in Germany, it was founded in 1502. Matin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon worked here. The University of Halle was founded in 1691 and both universities merged in 1817 to the now Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Wittenberg is located in Sachsony-Anhalt, on the river Elbe. In history it was the seat of the elector of Saxony and also in close connection with Martin Luther and the dawn of the Protestant Reformation. Various Luther and Melancthon memorial sites were added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 1996.
The present conference is a continuation of the German Polish Conference on Optimization series, which has been held in Zagan (1999), Cottbus (2002), Bedlewo (2005), Moritzburg (2009) and Krakow (2011).
The main topics of the meeting will include (and it is not limited to) the following general areas of recent research progress:
theory of smooth and nonsmooth continuous optimization problemsvariational problems and variational inequalities
numerical methods for mathematical programming
theory and numerical methods in optimal control
applications of optimal control and mathematical programming

The goal of GPCO6 is to provide a forum for scientists and researchers to exchange ideas and approaches, to present research findings and state-of-the-art solutions, to share experiences on potentials and limits, and to open new avenues of research and developments, on issues and topics related to optimization and its applications.
