INFOLAC is a program of the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean, which was created in 1986 by UNESCO resolution seeking to strengthen cooperation between the networks and systems of national information development in the region.
It is an intergovernmental forum that arose in response to a growing accumulation of concerns and wishes expressed in different national and regional forums in the seventies where they exchange expertise and experiences, with the aim of developing the information society.
All states in Latin America and the Caribbean who are members of UNESCO can be associated with INFOLAC and be represented by their respective national authorities in the Information Society. It is open to all public, private and professional. It diffuses through a quarterly newsletter and its website infolac.ucol.mx
Objectives:
Share information to generate awareness among librarians, archivists, and information managers in the region.
Actions:
Create a team consisting of specialists from the University of Colima, UNESCO, "Portal Editorial Committee" which will be open to contributions from any professional, researcher of ICTs in the region.
Develop a topic of interest proposed by the Committee and in collaboration with colleagues from the region interested in the topics suggested.
Report achievements, new developments, courses and events offered each month in different countries of the region.
Update information on the current situation and trends of ICT in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Monitor actions and experiences of professionals in the region as well as content and knowledge products developed in their respective institutions.
