Automotive 2014 - Description of the workshop
Topics/Call fo Papers
With the advent of technology and connectivity, Automotive User Interfaces are becoming increasingly complex and now host a variety of nontraditional applications. At the same time, Automotive UIs have also specific limitations imposed by the driving environment, driver attention limitations, safety considerations, and the organization of space inside the vehicle.
Consequently, the automotive environment provides new challenges in computer science and IUI disciplines. It is only natural to suggest that the automotive UI can benefit from the combination of a detailed HCI with smart agents. A more natural agent-driver interaction will be achieved when such intelligent agents model, reason, and act upon their users, environment and the car state. Improved applications will deliberate on their content, timing, and interface. Such intelligent user interfaces dedicated to the automotive domain will enable better integration of our transportation means in the modern connected and digital world.
Some topics of critical interest include: human automation interaction, contextual HMI, adaptive automation, adaptive displays, user modeling, and multimodal interaction.
In this workshop, we will ask the IUI community to share their automotive-relevant research directions and research results. We will ask researchers from the automotive domain to share the state of the art of IUI and to challenge the IUI community to address some of the burning issues in need for resolution in the next few years.
