Welcome to the World Congress of ICCEES in Stockholm 2010!

The provisional Congress Programme is now available on-line.

The VIII World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on 26-31 July 2010. The theme of the Congress is: "Eurasia: Prospects for Wider Cooperation". Michail Sergeivich Gorbachev has accepted to give the keynote speach at the opening session of the congress. The academic hosts are Stockholm University, Södertörn University College and Stockholm School of Economics. The Congress will be held at Stockholm City Conference Centre located in the very centre of the City. The local organiser of the Congress is the Sällskapet för studier av Ryssland, Central- och Östeuropa samt Centralasien (The Swedish Society for the Study of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia). You are invited to attend the Congress, participate in its panels and roundtables and enjoy the abundant cultural program on offer in the city of Stockholm.

The Royal Capital of Sweden

Discover a city like no other - a city built on 14 islands, where you are never far from the water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture. Stockholm is also home of the Nobel Prize. And just outside the city, the archipelago of 24 000 islands is waiting to be explored. Discover a city of contrasts. Go back 750 years in time and feel the medieval atmosphere of the Old Town "Gamla Stan" as you wander through the narrow streets. Stockholm has got history - but also the latest in fashion and IT. The trendy Stockholmers are often used as a test market by international companies, as they are quick to pick up on the latest trends. This is most obvious on the island of Södermalm, a hotbed of fashion, young culture and entertainment.

Stockholm is one third water, one third green belt and one third city. The island of Djurgården, the world´s first National City Park, is only a short walk from the pulse of the inner city. Stockholmers and visitors alike come here to relax in the leafy shade and rest their eyes on green. Stockholm's excellent transport links mean the city can offer reasonable access for all participants. Stockholm is very well positioned with most of Europe within three hours reach. It is a genuine meeting point in every respect and an increasingly important hub for flights to major destinations in the Baltic Sea Region, European Union and the expansive global community.
