In the recent year the wireless arena is witnessing an increasing interest in the SelfOrganizing Network (SON) paradigm applied to communications and networking, both from and industrial and academic point of view.
SON usually relies upon the availability of multi-radio access technology and multi-layer networks, namely heterogeneous network (HetNet); while there has been a special focus on infrastructured communications starting from early LTE SON deployments till future radio access technologies beyond LTE and LTE-Advanced, SON coordination approaches and techniques might be generalized to ad hoc systems in an inherent distributed way.
SON includes the so called self-properties such as self-configuration, self-optimization and self-healing. Self-configuration concerns automated and efficient deployment and initial configuration of new network elements. Self-optimization involves the adaptation of radio network parameters and configurations in order to meet local radio conditions and to coexist with other network elements in an efficient manner, both from a node perspective, but also from a user perspective. Finally, when unexpected and disruptive events occur, a specific self-healing mechanisms may be adopted to promptly reduce the impact of the failures.
Accepted papers will be published in the IEEE IWCMC 2014 proceedings and will be included in the IEEE digital library (IEEE Xplore).
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
? SON in macro/small cells and HetNets
? SON in macro cells and HetNets
? Coexistence with 5G view and WiFi evolution
? Interference management
? Energy Saving Management (ESM) in HetNets
