The goal of this NSF sponsored workshop is to bring together people from the theory and practice of self-organizing physical and biological systems in order to report on recent advances in this area and to identify directions for interdisciplinary research that will help shape the future of the field. The one-day meeting will consist of several invited talks around four major research areas, namely
amorphous computing,
modular robotics,
self-organizing biological systems, and
self-assembling DNA.
It will take place on January 8, 2014 in Portland, Oregon, USA, and is co-located with the ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA 2014). Information concerning the location is available on the SODA 2014 webpage.
