It is a great pleasure for the University of Ulster to have the opportunity to host the 9th European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. At this conference we would like to underline an important European innovation and entrepreneurship challenge of balancing the needs of society with the appropriate technology and service solutions with sustainable business models. This is an increasingly important challenge for European innovators, especially with the complex challenges of national healthcare systems, sustainable energy solutions and pressures to make efficiencies to public sector departments in general. We would like to debate the methods, business models and share best practices and case studies that not only articulate the traditional business logic, but also how these innovations better service the public and benefit society?
As ECIE 2014 Conference hosts we are mindful that the delegates will be a mix of both, returning visitors and first time visitors, to Belfast. In recent years Belfast has in blossomed into a must-see city, with visitors filling their itineraries with culture, history, great food and excellent shopping. There are a host of world class tourist attractions including the newly opened Titanic Building and fully restored Nomadic boat ? celebrating Titanic’s ‘Made in Belfast’ hertitage. The historic and cultural trail is peppered with fascinating attractions such as the Belfast City Hall, Ulster Museum, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Crumlin Road Gaol, The White House, Carrickfergus Castle and the Gaeltacht Quarter to name but a few. Belfast has received many accolades by numerous travel guides.
In addition, Belfast is a great access point to visit beautiful Irish scenery such as the Glens of Antrim, Fermanagh Lake District or combine a visit to Giants Causeway with a tour of nearby Bushmills Distillery.
We hope that you can join us in ECIE 2014 with new insights and we look forward to welcoming you to Belfast.
