Data management is fundamental for most information systems (IS) and especially for those based on the web. As the volume of data created globally is expected to grow exponentially in forthcoming years, management of big data gains importance in database research and development. Another new research area of great interest is the fusion or linking of structured and unstructured data in IS's, tightly related to semantic technologies. In addition, explosion of data usage scenarios, and shifts in computing hardware and platforms highly influence data management and development of modern information systems.
The Baltic conference on databases and information systems is an international forum among researchers and developers of databases and information systems. The purpose of this conference series is to bring together researchers, practitioners and PhD students in the fields of advanced database and IS's research, and provide an environment to exchange research findings and ideas on the matters, where development of reliable and sustainable systems, with data in the central role, has become crucial in modern diverse IS engineering. The conference will feature original research and application papers on the theory, design and implementation of today's IS's on a set of themes and issues.
This conference is continuing a series of successful bi-annual Baltic conferences on databases and information systems, which have been held in Trakai (1994), Tallinn (1996, 2002, 2008), Riga (1998, 2004,2010), and Vilnius (2000, 2006, 2012).
DB&IS 2014 will take place in Tallinn whose picturesque medieval Old Town is known around the world for its well-preserved completeness and authentic Hanseatic architecture. Enchanting atmosphere, rich cultural scene, beautiful surroundings, cutting-edge restaurants, cafés and clubs - there is certainly something for everyone in Tallinn.
