ICUES 2014 - Fifth International Conference on Urban and ExtraUrban Studies
Topics/Call fo Papers
Bangkok, the capital city since 1782, is the cultural, political, and economic center of Thailand. Famous for its high-rise buildings and impressive nightlife, the city boasts numerous universities, canals, magnificent temples, palaces, and unique markets and street vendors. The most visited city in 2013, this colorful and dynamic city presents the ideal stage for our discussions on the spaces and flows of the urban and extraurban.
We are proud to partner with the School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) to host our 2014 edition of the Spaces and Flows Conference. The SoAD was established in 1994 to provide Thailand a complete program of studies in English. The school aims to produce graduates with a well-grounded knowledge in design ? blending art with technology, environmental concerns, and a competence in the language for global communication and international recognition.
Conference Focus
This conference aims to critically engage the contemporary and ongoing spatial, social, ideological, and political transformations in a transnational, global, and neoliberal world. In a process-oriented world of flows and movement, we posit, the global north and global south now simultaneously converge and diverse in a dialectic that shapes and transforms cities, suburbs, and rural areas. This conference addresses the mapping of, the nature of, and the forces that propel these processural changes.
We are inviting proposals for paper presentations, workshops/interactive sessions, posters/exhibits, or colloquia (See Proposal Types), addressing Spaces and Flows through one of the following themes:
Human Environments and Ecosystemic Effects Urban and Extraurban Spaces Material and Immaterial Flows
