The 14th Mechatronics Forum International Conference
Karlstad, Sweden, June 16-18
In 2014, the Mechatronics conference will be held June 16-18 in Karlstad, Sweden. There are possibilities to combine the conference with the ISC2014 conference which will be held June 11-13 in Skövde, or with the Swedish Midsummer festivities on June 21.
General information:
The envisaged main venue of the conference this time is the Karlstad University campus, with some activities at the Karlstad Congress & Culture Centre, centrally located in Karlstad at the river Klarälven (Sweden's longest river). There is a choice of hotels in the City Centre and around Karlstad. Karlstad is served by direct high-speed trains from Stockholm and Gothenburg. Karlstad Airport (KSD) has scheduled flights from/to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Barcelona.
The conference will take place from Monday 16th of June until Wednesday 18th of June. The week before, the ISC2014 (Industrial Simulation Conference), coordinated by Eurosis will be held from 11th-13th of June in the nearby town of Skövde. Saturday 21st (after the conference) is Swedish Midsummer festival. This timing makes it possible for delegates to attend two conferences on one trip, or to combine business with pleasure. The distance between Karlstad and Skövde is just 150 km, served by direct bus and train connections.
We intend to work closely together with “Robot Valley”, a major Swedish initiative in the field of robotics, ranging from industrial robots to cobots and special purpose robots (such as in forestry, farming, and surveillance). The aim of this is to receive a sufficient number of industrial contributions to fill at least a one-day track with industrial papers.?
Conference Chairs:
Professor Leo J De Vin, Karlstad University & University of Skövde
Dr Jorge Solis, Karlstad University
Dr Amos Ng, University of Skövde
Industrial Chair: TBA
Tentative time schedule:
Abstracts (300-400 words) due: Friday, November 1, 2013
Full paper due: Friday, January 17, 2014
Final paper due: Friday, March 21, 2014
Registration deadline for authors: Monday, May 5, 2014
Tentative fees:
Early bird (until April 20, 2014): SEK 4900
Ordinary: SEK 5400
Student: SEK 3900
Industry day (industrialists only) SEK 2250
Presenting authors may present up to 2 papers each. A third paper will be allowed against an additional fee (tentatively SEK 1500)
Call for Papers and Scope:
A “Call for Papers” will be made available during Summer 2013.
The scope of the conference covers any of the mechatronics disciplines, in particular but not exclusively:
Controlled mechanical systems, robots, and adaptronics: modelling and simulation, control, sensing and image processing, path planning and gait control; artificial intelligence in robotics; experimental realization and very advanced industrial applications.
Drives and actuators: employing electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or other principles; novel or very advanced solutions, their modelling, simulation and control and novel applications.
Sensors, measurement systems and signal processing, pattern recognition: novel sensor principles, sensors and actuators in micro-systems, sensing of small quantities, sensor systems, wireless sensing, sensor fusion.
Control of mechatronic systems: new and advanced control algorithms, learning control, control in an information rich world, control of complex processes, uncertainty management in highly complex systems.
Industrial wireless communications in mechatronics: wireless sensor and actuator networks, wireless networked control systems, wireless robotics.
Mechatronic design: case studies, model based mechatronic design, system modelling, e.g.by UML or SysML, mechatronic design aspects of large complex systems, mechatronic design of mixed reality environments.
Mechatronic education: teaching of mechatronic aspects, mechatronic curricula, unconventional courses.
Human aspects and mechatronics: Cobots, mechatronic solutions to support an ageing population, interdisciplinary collaboration in mechatronic design, operator roles in complex mechatronic systems, mechatronics in healthcare and surgery.
Mini-symposia (special tracks)
general
A mini symposium session consists of at least 4 slots of 20 minutes (the shortest session size). However, they may also be 5 or 6 slots long. Longer mini symposia can be accommodated by distributing them over more than one session.
The format of a mini symposium may be (i) regular paper presentations on a specific specialist topic, (ii) an introduction followed by regular paper presentations, (iii) regular paper presentations followed by an open discussion or panel session, or (iv) any other suitable format. We would in particular welcome mini-symposia suggested and coordinated by industrialists, around industrially relevant and scientifically challenging themes.
Mini-symposium organizer roles and tasks include:
1) To identify and propose a mini-symposium topic
2) To approach authors to submit papers for the special track. This can be by invitation only or as an open call for mini-symposium papers.
3) To coordinate (most of) the review process within the mini-symposium.
If you would be interested in organizing a mini-symposium, then please contact the conference chairs through the addresses mentioned below. Mini-symposia with an open call can be included in the Call for Papers if proposed in time to be included.
