IEEE DySPAN 2010 STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS

To encourage student participation in 2010 IEEE International Symposium
on New Frontiers in Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks (IEEE DySPAN 2010),
several travel awards generously supported by the U.S. National Science
Foundation (NSF) are available to help defray a portion of the travel and
attendance costs.

ELIGIBILITY:
Graduate students currently active in the graduate program of accredited
institutions in the United States.

AWARD BENEFITS:
The award will help defray a portion of the following expenses per
student (up to a maximum of $500USD):
1) Economy airfare up to $250USD
2) Lodging for up to three nights at $50USD per night
3) Meals and incidentals at $25USD per day for up to 4 days

SELECTION PROCESS:
Recipients of the travel awards will be decided by the IEEE DySPAN
2010 Student Travel Award Chair (Professor Alexander M. Wyglinski,
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA), in consultation with members
of the Technical and Policy Committees, during the decision process.

TRAVEL AWARD APPLICATIONS:
Applications for a travel award will consist of:
1) A letter from the student (required contents are discussed below),
2) The student's vita, and
3) A supporting letter from the student's graduate advisor.

The letter from the student should include:
1) A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date,
2) A description of areas reflected in the IEEE DySPAN 2010 program

that would impact the student's research,
3) If the student has a paper or poster accepted for IEEE DySPAN 2010,

the student should include the paper or poster's title and whether

the student will present at IEEE DySPAN 2010, and
4) A statement about why the conference attendance is important to

the student.

The advisor's recommendation letter to the committee should include:
1) Confirmation that the student is a bona-fide Ph.D., J.D. or M.S.

candidate in good standing at an accredited institution in the

United States,
2) The suitability of the IEEE DySPAN 2010 program material to the

student's research area,
3) Ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the

conference, and
4) The strengths and potential contributions of the student.

DECISION PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA:
All travel award applications are to be submitted in PDF format between
December 15, 2009 and January 15, 2010. Any applications submitted
outside of this time window will not be reviewed. All applications
are to be emailed to "dyspan2010sta-AT-ece.wpi.edu" with the subject
heading "IEEE DySPAN 2010 Student Travel Award - Application". The
student travel award chair will notify successful applicants of the
decision by February 8, 2010. Recipients will be required to accept
the award by February 15, 2010 such that alternates can be notified
in the event that a recipient declines.

Priority for these awards shall be provided to:
1) Students who have papers or posters accepted to the conference

but do not possess the necessary financial means to attend and

present, and
2) Non-author students who have not published yet or who have never

been to a conference before.

Other criteria for the travel award includes:
1) Evidence of research in DSA networks and/or related policy areas,

and/or
2) A serious interest in DSA networks and/or related policy areas as

demonstrated by coursework and/or project experience.

Students from underrepresented groups are definitely encouraged to
apply.

REIMBURSEMENT PROCESS:
All successful applicants that attend IEEE DySPAN 2010 are required
to keep all original itemized receipts and flight boarding passes.
Upon returning to the U.S., complete the expense report located at
the following location:

Once completed, mail the signed expense report and original
receipts/boarding pass materials to the following address:
