Topics/Call fo Papers

The ICDM 13 Data Mining in Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare workshop aims to provide a forum for data miners, informaticists and clinical researchers to share information on their latest investigations in applying data mining techniques to biomedical and healthcare data. The broader context of the workshop comprehends artificial intelligence, information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing. Submissions are invited to address the need for developing new methods to mine, summarize and integrate the huge volume and diverse modalities of the structured and unstructured biomedical and healthcare data that can potentially lead to significant advances in the field.
Topics
Topics of interest include:
Clustering text data in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Classifying and clustering temporal data in EMR on the patient level in high dimensional space
Topic detection and information extraction in big text clinical data
Longitudinal analysis of clinical notes and surveys
Statistics and probability in large-scale data mining
Methods to perform simulation of population outcomes based on treatment types and identification of the optimal treatment
Visualization methods for identification of patients' similarity based on treatment types, and resource allocation (i.e. drugs, hospitalizations)
Evidence-based medicine
Medical image data mining
Computer-aided detection and diagnosis
Radiology structured-reporting and data mining
HIPAA compliance data mining
Data preprocessing and cleansing to deal with noise and missing data in medical data
Pharmacogenomics data mining
Biological markers detection
Biological and clinical data analysis and integration for translational research
Computational genetics, genomics and proteomics
Keynote Speaker
Professor Hong Yu, Faculty of Department of Quantitative Health Sciences & Associate Director in Health Informatics of Center for Clinical and Translational Science, University of Massachusetts
Important Dates
August 3, 2013: Due date for full workshop papers
September 24, 2013: Notification of paper acceptance
October 15, 2013: Camera-ready deadline for accepted papers
December 8, 2013: Workshop date
Paper Submission
Paper submissions will be done through the IEEE ICDM Workshop CyberChair submission system. Papers should be limited to a maximum of *8* pages, and follow the IEEE ICDM format requirements (http://icdm2013.rutgers.edu/author-instructions). All accepted workshop papers will be published in a formal proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society Press and will be indexed in IEEE Xplore. One paper will be selected for the best paper award, which will be presented at the workshop.
