The 2nd International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications - 2013 will be held in Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
on October 21, 2013.
Nowadays the Internet and broadband data transmission are based on ubiquitous wireless communications and high capacity optical networks. In recent years we have seen a growing interest in optical wireless communications. It is generally recognised that this technology holds the key for a substantial increase in the spectrum needed to be able to support the exponential growth in mobile multimedia type data traffic. There is a wide range of applications for optical wireless communications including, but not limited to, mobile data transfer, indoor RF spectrum relief, inter-vehicle communication and last-mile outdoor transmission links. Optical wireless consortia around the world have emerged to support the increasing research activities.
In addition, standardisation activities have started. The dedicated special session aims to bring together cutting edge research contributions that address challenges in optical wireless communications.
The workshop program will include technical paper sessions, keynote
talks and tutorials covering a broad range of topics in optical wireless communications.
The workshop is organized by the Northumbria University - Faculty of
Engineering and Environment, the European COST action IC1101 OpticWise and technically cosponsored by the IEEE Communications Society United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Section, the Institute of Physics (IOP) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Northumbria Network.
* Scope
We are soliciting contributed technical papers referring to the following topics of interest:
- Advanced photonic components
- Indoor optical high-speed systems
- Outdoor optical wireless systems realizations
- Radio over Free Space Optical communications
- Propagation modelling and characterization in OWC
- Physical layer design in OWC
- Networking protocols
- Emerging application areas and Market perspectives in OWC
- Visible light communications
- Optical wireless channel modelling
- Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-base-station optical wireless communications
- Optical wireless sensor networks
* Submission and Review Process
Papers submitted to IWOW 2013 must not have been published, submitted,
or accepted for publication elsewhere. IEEE policy regarding
plagiarism and duplicate submission/publication will be strictly
enforced. Papers must be submitted electronically via EDAS
(http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=15113). The submissions should not exceed 5 pages,
and should follow the IEEE double-column format for conferences.
Templates are available on the conference website.
Submitted papers will undergo a peer review process, coordinated by
the TPC, and evaluated for originality, technical correctness,
relevance, and quality of presentation. The proceedings will be
published in the IWOW 2013 Proceedings and in IEEExplore(tm).
