An information system (IS) is any combination of information technology and people's activities that support operations, management and decision making. In a very broad sense, the term information system is frequently used to refer to the interaction between people, processes, data and technology. In this sense, the term is used to refer not only to the information and communication technology (ICT) that an organization uses, but also to the way in which people interact with this technology in support of business processes. Some make a clear distinction between information systems, computer systems, and business processes. Information systems typically include an ICT component but are not purely concerned with ICT, focusing instead on the end use of information technology. Information systems are also different from business processes.
Aim
The First International Workshop on Recent Advances in Information Systems (RAIS-2013) is dedicated to address the challenges in the area of information systems and its applications, thereby presenting a consolidated view to the interested researchers in the aforesaid fields. The workshop looks for significant contributions to recent advances in information systems in theoretical and practical aspects.
The goal of this Workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to focus on advances in information systems concepts as well establishing new collaborations in these areas.
Topics
Authors are solicited to contribute to the workshop by submitting articles that illustrate research results, projects, surveying works and industrial experiences that describe significant advances in the following areas, but are not limited to:
Business Intelligence
Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery from Information System
Data Visualization
Decision Support System
E-Commerce and E-Government
ICT Policies
Information Retrieval and Services
Information System Strategy, Development, Management, and Organization
