Conference Information
Conference Theme
Current approaches to attracting and retaining IT professionals have met with limited success. The same is true for strategies to increase IT enrolments. The turbulence in the global economy is leading to a drain of IT professionals towards lower labor cost centers while at the same time changing the nature of IT work. These trends and concerns have implications on pedagogy, IT professional development, the supply and demand for IT professionals and, ultimately, on their career progression

List of Relevant Topics
SIGMIS CPR 2010 welcomes research and practice submissions that address issues congruent with the conference theme. SIGMIS CPR 2010 also welcomes submissions on traditional topics within Computer Personnel Research. These topics include, but are not limited to:

The roles of culture (organization, occupational, or societal) in IT and IT work

Professional or occupational commitment in IT

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the coming decade

Career development practices of IT professionals

Diversity issues in the development, attraction, and retention of IT professionals

Role profiles and job profiles

Motivations of computer personnel

Work satisfaction and staff turnover in IT

Increasing IT enrollments, especially of females into IT programs

IS curriculum for the next decade: More of the same?

Ethical and security issues.

Doctoral Consortium
A special doctoral consortium will take place on Thursday, May 20. This doctoral consortium is targeted at students who are at the stage of dissertation proposal-writing or data collection, and who are conducting research on a computer personnel research topic. During fall 2009 and winter 2010, each student who submits to the doctoral consortium will have an opportunity to have their research proposal reviewed by a panel of qualified faculty mentors. In Vancouver, each student will have a full 30 minutes to present their research ideas and to receive feedback in-person from six-to-eight experienced personnel researchers. Doctoral students should be nominated to the consortium by an email message from a faculty sponsor, indicating that they are at an appropriate stage of their PhD program (normally in the 3rd or 4th year, but basically at the stage of dissertation proposal-writing). Students nominated for the consortium should submit a research proposal to be reviewed by the consortium mentors. At most, three students per PhD program may be nominated to the consortium. Click for additional information on the doctoral consortium.

Format of Submission
ACM SIGMIS 2010 welcomes completed research papers as well as researches-in-progress.

Completed research papers must not exceed 28 double-spaced pages and must conform to the established formats of MIS Quarterly. The 28 pages must include all text, figures, and tables. The cover page, abstract, keywords, and references are excluded from this page count.

Research-in-progress papers must not exceed 14 double-spaced pages and must conform to the established formats of MIS Quarterly. The 14 pages must include all text, figures, and tables. The cover page, abstract, keywords, and references are excluded from this page count.
