AIMS
Computer鈥怱upported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is an
interdisciplinary research field that gathers researchers around one
common goal: to facilitate the designing, conduction, and analysis of
collaborative learning (CL) activities where students and instructors
are supported by advanced information and communication technologies.
The use of technology helps to understand how learning emerges in
group settings and how to create effective scenarios that enable
learning through interaction, exploration, discussion, and
collaborative knowledge construction.
The emergence and widespread adoption of the so鈥恈alled Web 2.0
technologies that allow people to collaborate anytime and anywhere at
an unprecedented scale have opened numerous new opportunities for
CSCL. In addition, technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI)
have reached the level of maturity that allow for them to be
successfully applied for supporting collaborative learning in
innovative and intelligent ways.
To accomplish the development of innovative and intelligent systems
for CSCL, we need to rethink what is considered as state鈥?f鈥恡he鈥恆rt in
AI technologies and push the research trends in CSCL towards the new
generation of technologically sophisticated systems/methods capable of
enhancing/improving CL.

TOPICS
In this special issue, we invite submissions of papers presenting
novel ideas, critiques of existing works, models, practical studies
and experiments with systems based on innovative technologies in CSCL
settings. We especially encourage papers that enhance current CSCL
systems in architectural, technological, and philosophical levels and
stimulate the exploration of new directions of applying AI and Web 2.0
in the context of CSCL research. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:

鈥?Architectures, frameworks and systems for CSCL
鈥ools and languages to support CSCL scripts
鈥eb 2.0 technologies applied in CSCL
鈥nnovative ways for analyzing students鈥?interactions
鈥ew approaches for group/individual assessment
鈥ser modeling, personalization and adaptation for CSCL
鈥emantic Web technologies to support CL
鈥everaging Social Semantic Web in CL
鈥ntelligent (authoring/tutoring) systems for CL
鈥gent and multi鈥恆gent technology for CL
鈥ata mining in CSCL context
鈥istributed systems to support CL
鈥ovel user interfaces to support CL

SUBMISSION
Authors should follow the author guidelines at
http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/tlt/author. For this special
issue, submissions should be at least 8 double鈥恈olumn pages in length
and must not exceed 14 double鈥?column pages including text,
references, appendices, and figures.
