MDS 2013 - MDS 2013 : Mining Data Semantics in Information Networks
Topics/Call fo Papers
This presentation will discuss key issues and practices of mining semantics in heterogeneous information networks. Social, information and biological systems usually consist of a large number of interacting, multi-typed components connected via various types of links, which makes heterogeneous networks ubiquitous. Mining semantics from the heterogeneous networks can address several important questions regarding data integration, data analytics and knowledge discovery. Three use cases and their related tools utilizing the developed algorithms to solve real-life problems will be demonstrated: " Research profiling networks: Evaluating research impact becomes major milestones for tenure promotion, funding allocation, and strategic planning. It is critically important to facilitate research collaboration in order to trigger innovation and transformative thinking. VIVO as a Research profiling network applies Semantic Web technologies to enable better scholarly communication and collaboration. " Patent mining network: Patents are quite different from academic papers with complexity on levels of claims, unique language style, patent citations, and patent categorization. Content analysis of patents becomes critic. we will demo patent miner platform called PMiner (www.pminer.org) which displays in-depth mining at the content level of patents. " Chem2Bio2RDF: Biomedical and healthcare domains, especially drug discovery, face great challenges to integrate and mine hidden associations in large amount of open datasets and PubMed literature. Chem2Bio2RDF integrates more than 20 different datasets based on existing ontologies and applies data mining algorithms to identify and predicate association between different biological entities.
