“Aesthetics values and the process of civilization”
What is the relationship between the beautiful, the birth of aesthetics and the process of civilization? In the Eighteenth Century aesthetics was the moment of maximum enhancement of subjectivity, to which was given the power to criticize, evaluate, imagine and enjoy. This return to the subject of a lead role on the history stage also brought with it the danger of extreme subjectivism and impending relativism. The assertion of this subjectivism, which has forgotten that the aesthetic feeling is the engine of civilization and inspirator of the idea of progress, to be, in the contemporary age, the pro-ponent of a general process of decivilization, subtracting to the aesthetics its historical and social value.
The following are some sub-themes that can be used as guides:
-Aesthetics and society of the spectacle
-Aesthetics and political ideology
-Beauty and democracy in the ancient world
-Aesthetics and modernity
-Aesthetics and individualism
-Art, wit and Baroque Society
-Art and society
