2010 Meeting & Field Workshop in South China, International Conference of Geobiology (ICG), Wuhan, China; 3-6 June, 2010
IGCP 572 is one of major sponsors of the ICG and will organize a thematic issue addressing: Permian/Triassic (P/Tr) mass extinction, Triassic restoration of marine ecosystems, and Global distribution of Early Triassic microbialites at the ICG, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, China in the summer of 2010. The symposium aims to update the studies on the P/Tr mass extinction and possible causes, investigate the mechanism and processes of marine ecosystem restoration following the P/Tr mass extinction through studies of biostratigraphy, palaeontology, palaeoecology, sedimentology, geochemistry and biogeochemistry, and elucidate the growing mechanism and environmental significance of the Early Triassic microbiliates. Three potential field excursions are also organized before and after the symposium: 1) Meishan-Chaohu excursion route: examining the P/Tr mass extinction and its aftermath from platform ramp to basin settings; 2) Guizhou excursion route: assessing recovery pattern and processes of palaeo-communities in various facies settings; 3) Southern Tibet excursion route: collapse and re-building of marine ecosystems in Gondwana margins. Funds are available to help students and presenters to participate in the meeting and field excursions.

Additional to the P-Tr sessions, you have opportunity to attend other sessions addressing Early life, other phanerozoic bioevents such as O/S, F/F, G/L, T/J, K/T mass extinctions, Astrobiology and life in extreme environments etc. More information can be found at the following link: http://www.geobiology.net.cn/2010meeting>, .

Short or extended abstracts (maximum 3 printing pages) will be published in a SCI-cited geoscience journal "Journal of Earth Science". Abstract submission deadline is 10 December, 2009.

Small grants are available for IGCP 572 project members to apply for participating in Wuhan conference and field excursions (see below).

The First Circular of ICG 2010 is attached here.
